Limiting Beliefs of Weight Loss

By JimK | September 27, 2008

When it comes to your body, the elephant in the room is your thoughts. How do you think and what are your beliefs about yourself, eating well, exercising, etc.?

Before you do anything else, you owe it to yourself to think about this.

The good news is that you get the results you believe you can have. If you’re unhappy with your body, I urge you to question if you believe that you can change your body.

If you don’t think it’s possible, then your unconscious mind just works to carry out this belief, and no amount of dieting or exercising will change it.

Until you believe that you can truly transform your body, don’t go on a diet because it’ll be a waste of time. Instead, begin learning how to think in new ways. (I’ve put a video below to give you an example of what I mean.)

The guaranteed path to better beliefs and thoughts is to ask better questions. ex: How can I get the body I want? What can I learn from the last time? How can I enjoy the process, etc.

Get your mind right and the body will follow.

to your beautiful body,
Jim

I agree having your head in the right place really helps with weight loss, you need to focus on what you want and achieve it, if you aren’t completely committed you will struggle to succeed.

Great article. I agree totally with your article. Almost every one of us, when faced with a difficult challenge, we almost always think negatively. This is true for every one of us even during weight loss proccess. We almost always get frustrated when it seems we can not lose those silly and annoying extra pounds. Many spend lots of productive energy thinking and verbalizing that they “can’t lose weight” Or that “weight loss is just another impossibility”. If you must lose weight then you must try to encourage yourslef with positive affirmations. It can be as simple as saying “(your name) You can do it and you must do it! you are almost there, don’t give up now!”. Adding a little positive affirmation to your spirit will give your weight loss process the much needed courage and will eventually help you live longer and lose weight for good.

I must agree that ‘mind over matters’ really works. You just have to think that you can in order to achieve something. Talking about the power of the mind.

Great post! Believing that you CAN achieve your goal is important in many aspects – smoking, weight loss, etc. Mind over matter is what makes the difference in anything you do. Thanks for sharing

Your self belief is going to be a major player in deciding whether you lose weight or not. Most people approach weight loss with the mindset that they are not really going to succeed.

If this is the message you are giving to your brain then it will make sure that it follows your wishes, one way or another.

Changing your mental behaviours should begin before you start to change your physical behaviours.

If you try to lose weight and approach it with a negative belief and attitude then it is only a matter of time before you are back to square one.

Sort out the head and the body will follow

I totally agreed that your belief system plays a major role in achieving any goal. I think it was Napoleon Hill who said “What the mind believes, it can achieve”. I recently lost 35 pounds because I believed I could and I wanted to be lighter. Because on these beliefs I was able to avoid foods that caused me to gain weight and I had the discipline to exercise so I could burn off the extra fat.

Very nice post. I couldn’t agree more. In the society that we live in we are bombarded with an image of beauty that is nearly unattainable for “normal” people. We have to believe in ourselves and find our unique beauty within us.

I totally identify with what you’re saying! My mind (self-perception) has been my biggest enemy!

    Jim –
How True! Our perceptions shape our reality. Our innate personality has much to do with how we see and operate in the world. The biggest assistance I have gotten is discovering my True Colors and using the strength of my personality in many different areas of my life.
